Dear Parents & Carers,
As we begin the second half of Term 4, we are busily making plans and preparations for 2023. I have no doubt that it will be another very successful year for the students at The Rivers Secondary College, Kadina High Campus.
In Term 3, we emailed all members of our school community to consult on a proposed Whole School Study Period model for 2023. In this email, we proposed that on Tuesdays in 2023, students would be dismissed at 2.30pm instead of the usual 3.15pm. The aim of this model was to embed a dedicated study timeslot for students and greater opportunity for staff professional learning focused on collaboration. The model stipulates that each Tuesday, students can:
- Attend Homework Centre from 2.30– 3.15pm. Homework Centre is staffed by a teacher dedicated to assisting students to complete homework and assessments
OR
- Travel home to engage in independent study.
**School buses still depart at 3.15pm
As part of our consultation, we surveyed:
- Students
- Staff
- Parents/Community members.
Survey results indicated that there was significant support to
trial this for Semester 1, 2023.
Whole School Study Period (Tuesdays dismissal at 2.30pm) will commence from
Week 1, Term 1 2023
I am looking forward to implementing this new model to support student and school achievement. I am also looking forward to gaining more feedback from you all once we begin implementation. I know that there may be some teething issues as there is with any new change, but we will work closely with our students and community to ensure confidence.
